South West Truckers

Britain's Premier Truckers Club

21 Years of South West Truckers

 The story so far…

The club was formed in June 1982 by a group of lorry drivers in Avonmouth docks.  Their prime intentions were improving the public’s image of the H.G.V driver throughout the U.K, with the purpose of gaining better conditions and facilities for all its members.  After 21 years, the club has 230+ active members although nearly 3000 members have actually joined S.W.T over the last 21 years.  For geographical and administration reasons the club was divided up into regional areas, from Bristol to Cornwall, these areas having their own committee and funds, plus a central committee which is made up of members form each area to administer the club as a whole.

To improve the perception of the truck driver’s public image, its members give up what precious spare time they have for charity work.  To date the amount raised by all our members old and new over the last 20 years stands somewhere in the region of £85,000 - £100,000.  We have raised enough money to buy six guide dogs for the blind as well as donating large sums of money to various organisations such as C.L.I.C, The Red Cross, ST Johns Ambulance and numerous other local charities and organisations throughout the South West, which are listed below.

Many people have benefited from the hard work of our members, and we have had a lot of fun actually doing it.  South West Truckers club will always be keen to support local and national charities, and these listed below are just a few, there are many more, 2 years ago we were rewarded for all our hard work in wining the Chivenor plate, this being a great honour for the club as a whole, as we were put forward by the Mayor of Barnstaple.

We support the Children’s Hospice (LITTLE BRIDGE HOUSE) in Barnstaple, which currently is the only children’s hospice in the Southwest, this support is ongoing and S.W.T support the kingfisher room by means of refurbishment etc when required.   Although this is currently, the only children’s hospice in the southwest they are in the process of trying to raise TEN MILLON pounds to build another one in Bristol.  This weekend is important to Southwest Truckers we are hoping that we will be able to raise a lot of awareness and money for the Children’s Hospice working with them towards their goal of Ten Million.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have supported us over the years, and hope they will continue to do so, if this is the first time you have heard of us, come up and meet us, we are a friendly lot and have a lot of laughs and are up to allsorts of crazy things this year.  Hope to see you.

Best wishes

Mr James Reynolds

(former Chairman of Southwest Truckers)
